Please check the information below for a reminder of the day and time of your course and to view details of the textbook to purchase. Please note that whilst ideally you should obtain a copy of the textbook for the first lesson, don’t worry if this is not possible as your teacher will make provisions to ensure you can follow along without it during the first session. Most textbooks should be available from the University branch of Waterstone’s (the higher of the two branches on Saddler Street in Durham City), or available to purchase elsewhere (including online).
Your course will be delivered on Microsoft Teams. If you do not already have Microsoft Teams, ahead of your first session, you will need to download it from the following link: Download Microsoft Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps | Microsoft Teams Please do this in plenty of time before the first session.
When creating your Teams account, please use the email address which you used to register for the course (if you are a member of the public, do not worry that you do not have a Durham University email address – you will still have access using your personal email address).
Upon installing Teams on your device, you will see your course (e.g French Beginners) within the Teams section of the page. Please click on the course name / icon. On the left hand side, you will see a menu item ‘Main Channels’. Please click on this to expand it. The video link to your class will be found under ‘2. Teams link’ (once the teacher has created it). Materials for each week and other key information will be found under section 3.
General information about using Microsoft Teams can be found at:Microsoft's Teams help guidesDurham University guidance on using Microsoft Teams(Accessible to Durham University students and staff members).
You have been added to a Teams site for your course. Please download and open Microsoft Teams as per the instructions above for online courses. There will be no video link (as your course will be delivered in-person) but the site will act as a repository for course materials.

In-person courses take place in the Elvet Riverside building on the Durham University campus. To view the building on Google maps, please click this link: Elvet Riverside building
Please note that Elvet Riverside 1 and 2 are both at this location and are connected. Please enter the building via the entrance to Elvet Riverside 1 (the main entrance). In the foyer, you will see a reception and security office on the left-hand side, and there is a map of the building on the wall, should you need help locating your room.
Please note that the doors to Elvet Riverside 2 sometimes operate on a one-way system. You can leave the building via them, but you cannot always enter.
Parking is unfortunately not available on the University campus, however nearby streets are well provisioned with bays which can be used free of charge after 6pm.
