The Durham University International Students’ Association (ISA) represents over 4,500 students from around the world. Their aim is to bring people together through the celebration of different cultural events such as Thanksgiving, Diwali and Lunar New Year and provide a supportive environment for students to exchange ideas and learn about different cultures and languages. Alongside organising and hosting a variety of events, the ISA also runs a mentoring scheme which pairs incoming international students with current students from similar backgrounds, helping students integrate into University life and form new friendships. The ISA also liaises with University staff and Durham Students’ Union to ensure the unique needs of international students are considered and accommodated for. Ultimately, the ISA seeks to create a sense of community for all students, no matter what background, and create a space to celebrate and appreciate the diversity we have at Durham University!
