[04/25] Prof. Bruce D. Malamud Presents Workshop on Ethical Use of AI in Research at ARISE 2025

As part of the Amrita Research & Innovation Symposium for Excellence (ARISE 2025), Professor Bruce D. Malamud, Director of the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience, delivered a one-hour virtual workshop titled "Using AI Ethically in Research and Manuscript Preparation". The event, hosted at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Amritapuri Campus in India, drew a full (in-person) audience of approximately 150 attendees.

Designed for non-technical academic audiences, the one-hour session focused on the practical, day-to-day use of artificial intelligence tools in academia, emphasising ethical considerations. Despite presenting virtually, Prof. Malamud engaged the room actively through PollEverywhere prompts, sparking thoughtful discussion and reflection among participants.

“I’m not an AI expert,” Prof. Malamud remarked, “but I aim to use AI ethically as a tool to support my research and manuscripts.”

The workshop formed a part of the symposium’s growing dialogue on responsible innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. ARISE, now in its second year, continues to showcase leading voices in research and innovation. Prof. Malamud previously attended the event in person in India during its inaugural edition in 2024.

Special thanks were extended to Dr. Maneesha Sudheer for the invitation to contribute to this year’s program.
