HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025 Shortlist Announcement - More Self-Care Skills, Fewer Opioids: Live Well with Chronic Pain

We are delighted to announce that a Pain Academy Project had been shortlisted by the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025 in the catergory of Best Use of Integrated Care and Partnership Working in Patient Safety Award
Live Well with Pain (LWWP) started in 2018 by retired GP and Wolfson Honorary Fellow, Frances Cole and pharmacist, Emma Davies to enable health practitioners and chronic pain sufferers reduce harm from strong opioids by increasing confidence in pain self-care skills. LWWP created Accredited 10 Footsteps online training is led by experienced pain practitioners co-delivered with people with lived experience of pain. Since 2022 a nationwide workforce grew of skilled practitioners delivering community/primary care self-care programmes with safer medicines use, described below. LWWP website provides free, practical, evidenced, knowledge, skills support with creative tools engaging person-centred self-management with medication reduction.
