Women in Neuroscience

Women in Neuroscience is an award-winning network designed to inspire, connect and support neuroscientists who identify as female in/from the UK

Women in Neuroscience was founded, as she was graduating, by our very own Elizabeth ”Lizzie “English. She was trained in Neuroscience, as an MBiol student, here in the Department of Biosciences, Durham University, and went on to pursue her love of neuroscience at Cambridge University, performing a PhD in Tau pathology in Alzheimers. Co-incidentally,  this week, she will be a co-author on a new a peer-reviewed publication based on her MBiol Project here in Durham, focused on a new neutraceutical health project designed in Durham for brain and body injury recovery in contact sport.

Women in Neuroscience UK (WiNUK) aims to improve gender equity in neuroscience careers. Historically, scientific environments were not made for women.

Today, neuroscience remains to be male dominated, especially in leadership roles. Active changes must be made for people of all genders to feel equally safe, happy and successful in neuroscience.

WiNUK  is a community that proudly supports those who identify as female in neuroscience.

WiNUK stands against gender-based biases and discrimination, which remain too common in science workplaces.

WiNUK believes that women should feel included in their workplaces and receive the recognition, citations, funding, pay and job security that they deserve for their scientific work.

By improving the inclusion of women and their diverse viewpoints in neuroscience, WiNUK has the capacity to improve research cultures and support scientific advancements, to the benefit of us all.
