Canadian Student Loans

Eligibility Criteria

Canadian students can apply for loans through the Canada Student Loans Program, which offers repayable loans and non-repayable grants to support post-secondary education. These loans and grants are provided in collaboration with participating provinces and territories and are available to:

  • Full- and part-time students
  • Students from low- and middle-income families
  • Students with dependents
  • Students with permanent disabilities

Application Process

For detailed information on how to apply, please visit the Canada Student Loans Program website or the website of your provincial Student Aid Office. Your provincial Student Aid Office will handle the processing of your loans.

Durham University does not administer Canadian Student Loans directly. However, we provide necessary documentation to support your loan application, including confirmations of enrolment and program information forms.

Confirmation of Enrolment/Registration Forms

Before loan funds are disbursed, your lender may require Durham University to verify your student status. This is typically done through a Confirmation of Enrolment or Registration form.

To have your form authorised by Durham University:

  1. Complete the student section of the form (do not fill out other sections).
  2. Provide the following information with the form:
    • Your full name
    • Your Durham University application or student number
    • Your email address
    • Your Social Insurance Number (if required by the form)
  3. Submit via:

We will then complete, authorise, and stamp the form, and send it to your lender in Canada. A scanned copy will be emailed to you once the form is sent.

Program Information Forms

Your provincial Student Aid Office may require details about your intended program of study, typically through a Program Information form.

To have your form completed by Durham University:

  1. Ensure your form includes your personal and program information.
  2. Email a downloaded or scanned PDF of the form to us.loans@durham.ac.uk

We will complete, authorise, and stamp the form and return it directly to you (unless your provincial authority requires us to send it directly to them).
