This information is for home undergraduates progressing from the Supported Progression Programme only.
Home undergraduates progressing from the Supported Progression Programme and starting their studies in 2019/20 or 2020/21, whose household income is less than £42,875, are entitled to a Supported Progression Bursary of up to £2,000 in 2020/21.
You get your Supported Progression Bursary as well as your government funding and you don't have to pay it back.

If you are living in College accommodation your Supported Progression Bursary will be deducted from the cost of your College accommodation. You will pay the remainder of your College accommodation in three equal termly instalments (you will receive an invoice showing the original amount of your College accommodation, the amount of your Supported Progression Bursary as a deduction and the amount you have left to pay towards the cost of your College accommodation).
If you are not living in College accommodation your Supported Progression Bursary will be paid into your bank account in three equal termly instalments on the last day of each term.
You will only receive your payments if you are a fully registered student of the University on a set 'trigger date' each term. You will stop being a fully registered student if you suspend your studies or if you withdraw from your studies.
If you receive a Supported Progression Bursary and you are also entitled to a Durham Grant you will have your total support capped at £2,000.
You will be told how much Supported Progression Bursary you will receive and how much Durham Grant you will receive.
Your 2020/21 Supported Progression Bursary is tied to the programme stated in your offer of a place from the University and you are entitled to payments for the ordinary duration of this programme only.
If you wish to transfer your Supported Progression Bursary to a different programme you must submit a request to Dr Michael Gilmore, the Academic Registrar.

You do not have to apply for your Supported Progression Bursary. As long as you have applied to Student Finance England (or equivalent) for your government funding and been assessed, and as long as you have consented to Student Finance England (or equivalent) passing your household income information to the University you will automatically be awarded a Supported Progression Bursary (if eligible). We will be awarding Supported Progression Bursaries from 1st September 2020 to 25th June 2021, depending on when you get assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent).
You can get a Supported Progression Bursary in every year of your studies, provided that your household income remains below £42,875 (your household income is reassessed by Student Finance England or equivalent every year) and provided that you stay on the same programme of study (or have permission from the Academic Registrar to transfer to a different one).
