We are aware of some media reportage regarding the US security clearance of Fiona Hill, our Chancellor and a former US Presidential advisor.
The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of Durham University. It is a high-profile role which includes official, pastoral, scholarly, and ambassadorial duties.
Some of the key responsibilities include presiding over the University’s degree congregations, helping the University to promote its achievements, and hosting or participating in University activities.
It is not a paid role or an executive role.
Dr Fiona Hill was installed as the 13th Chancellor of Durham University in June 2023. By this point she had ceased her previous roles in the US Government. The matter of security clearance no longer applies.
