Chemistry is the central science. Study how societally and technologically important substances from pharmaceuticals to superconductors are designed and made, along with the fascinating phenomena which occur in bulk materials yet originate at the atomic scale.

Our department has modern laboratories, extensive state-of-the-art instrumentation and world-class facilities.  Here, you’ll be taught by internationally renowned research-active academics with a wide range of expertise. We have exciting options available in your final year for industrial placements and study abroad.

    We have a range of BSc and MChem courses, many accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, along with an outstanding record of academic achievement - 92% of our students gain 1st or upper second class (2:1) Honours.
