Students outside the Department of Classics and Ancient History in Durham City.

The Department of Classics & Ancient History at Durham invites applications from UK and international applicants for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.

 Application Deadline: Tuesday 10 January 2023 (17.00 h)

The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers. The awards cover tuition fees (at a rate equivalent to the UK Home Fee) and include a maintenance stipend.

We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project. Prospective applicants should discuss their project with potential supervisors before submitting an application, and are also warmly encouraged to contact the department’s Director of Postgraduate Research, Thorsten Fögen, with enquiries about the application process and/or the PhD programme at Durham.

Northern Bridge will be holding two Application Masterclasses for prospective applicants: on Thursday 3 November 2022 (10-12 h) and on Tuesday 8 November 2022 (14-16 h). Pre-registration is essential. For information on these events, as well as further information about the scheme and detailed guidance notes, see the Northern Bridge studentship website.
