Professor Alessio Del Bue, Senior Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa, has been appointed as an Honorary Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University.
We are delighted to announce that Professor Alessio Del Bue, Senior Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa, has been appointed as an Honorary Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University. This is the first Honorary Professorship in the Department’s history, marking an important milestone in its development.
Professor Del Bue is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in computer vision, artificial intelligence, and their applications. He leads the Pattern Analysis & Computer Vision (PAVIS) research line at IIT, which develops state-of-the-art methods in 3D vision, machine learning, and AI-driven analysis of complex data. His research has played a leading role in advancing techniques for 3D reconstruction, multimodal AI, and human-centred applications of vision technologies.
This appointment reflects the Department’s commitment to building strong international collaborations with world-leading researchers. Professor Del Bue will contribute to joint global research initiatives, postgraduate training, and interdisciplinary projects that connect Durham with the wider European AI research community.
