We have an outstanding reputation for excellence in research, teaching and employability of our students. Ranked joint first in the UK for world-leading research impact and fifth in terms of grade point average (REF 2014), we are a vibrant community of scholars, with members across the range of career levels, many of who are internationally-acclaimed researchers pursuing innovative and critical research agendas, and future leaders establishing such profiles.
We are also highly ranked across university league tables, currently placed third in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2019, fifth in the Guardian University Guide 2020, and 51st in the THE World University rankings.
Both of our undergraduate programmes are highly rated in the National Student Survey, whilst our Initial Teacher Education programmes have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2011 and 2013. At postgraduate and undergraduate level our students can choose from a wide range of topics spanning the discipline of Education.

Our mission is to be a School of Education that is recognised regionally, nationally and internationally for its excellence in research, scholarship and teaching. At the core of our vision is a more equitable world in which education plays an important role in enabling individuals, communities and societies to flourish.
Research, Scholarship and Teaching conducted in the School of Education aims at contributing to expanding the frontiers of educational knowledge by:
(a) conducting internationally excellent research which has a positive impact on individuals and organizations through policy and practice
(b) creating a knowledge-base that provides evidence to facilitate decision making in education
(c) delivering rigorous and relevant education which inspires our students to become the future architects of an equitable and sustainable world.
