Welcome to the School of Education

Congratulations on receiving your offer to study at Durham University. It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Education for our Post-offer Visit Day. We do not expect you to prepare anything in advance but if you have any questions about the Programme or studies at Durham University, we are of course very happy to discuss these during the Visit Day.

Department information

Students who join us for undergraduate study participate in a first-class educational experience which combines the outcomes of world class research with innovative teaching and exceptional support. Our teaching staff come from a broad range of educational disciplines and backgrounds, while some of our modules are co-taught with students from other Education programmes. This not only creates a vibrant academic community but extends the breadth and depth of your educational experience.

BA Primary Education

We are looking forward to welcoming you and would like to thank you for applying. 

By deciding to become a Primary teacher you have already made a significant commitment to a very worthwhile career; one which is very fulfilling, fun and enjoyable but also hard work .

Should you decide to start your career journey with us at Durham you will be joining an organisation with a long tradition of producing highly skilled practitioners dating back to 1839. Inspired by our past and informed by current research and practice, we aim to shape the future of education by providing the best quality training to prepare all our trainees to become successful members of the profession. 

The Visit Day will be informative as well as informal. We will start with a brief introduction to the School of Education and our BA Primary Education programme. You will then have a chance to meet with current trainees and staff. We will finish by having an informal discussion with some of our current Primary Education students.

15:00  A carousel of 20 minute talks/workshops from staff and students showcasing the skills and knowledge you will develop during your course.

BA Education Studies (inc Ed Studies - Psychology/Geography/Sociology)

Wednesday 15th February, Tuesday 21st March and Wednesday 22nd March 2023.

The Visit Day will be informative as well as informal. We will start with a brief introduction to the School of Education and our Education Studies Programmes. You will then have a chance to experience what it means to study with us with a sample lecture. We will finish by having an informal discussion with some of our current Education Studies students.

Information for guests

Unfortunately, it is not normally possible to allow you to participate in the Visit Day academic sessions, however we would like to extend a warm welcome to all our guests of offer-holders and invite you to explore our beautiful city. The Palatine Centre café will be open during the Post-offer Visit Day for your convenience, serving a selection of drinks, cold food and paninis. Other University cafés will be open during the event, find the full list of information here.
