UK Lingua 2023. This year's theme is about Integration

UK Lingua 2023 will take place Saturday 22 April 10.00am-6.00pm and Sunday 23 April 10.00am-4.00pm.

Conference Theme: Integration

Integration is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as ‘the act or process of combining two or more things so that they work together’.

In the context of learning and teaching languages, integration might then refer to issues such as combining language skills within the same lesson, or within the same assessment; ensuring the study  of culture alongside language; including in the same classroom students at different levels, from different backgrounds, or with different ways of thinking; successful transition of students from one level into another, and so on.

The seventh UK Lingua Annual conference will take place on the 22 and 23 of April 2023 at Durham University.  Aimed at MFL and ESL teachers and researchers at all educational levels (primary, secondary, university, languages for all) UK LINGUA is a forum for the exchange of ideas, theories and practices, enhancing scholarship and teaching excellence in this field.

UK Lingua 2023 takes the focus ‘Integration’ in its widest sense, and we invite proposals for papers on the topics suggested below, or on associated aspects of MFL learning and teaching.

Suggested broad topics (non-exhaustive list):

  • Integration of language skills (in teaching, or in assessment)
  • Integration of multiple media and technologies: blended learning and teaching
  • Adaptive integration of methodologies (traditional and innovative)
  • Planning for transition and integration
  • Integrating creative tasks and activities in the classroom
  • Cultural integration: developing intercultural competence, virtual exchanges and international projects
  • Equality, diversity, widening participation: Decolonisation and inclusion
