Dr Rosi Song, Professor of Hispanic Studies at Durham University, is currently touring the United States with “Lost in Plain Sight: The Life and Legacy of Gaspar Cassadó” — a project that blends performance and research to rediscover the music and cultural impact of the Catalan composer. Don’t miss the final two events at Yale University (6 October) and Russell Library (7 October).
Dr Rosi Song, Professor of Hispanic Studies at Durham University, is taking part in a series of international events celebrating the life and music of Gaspar Cassadó (1897–1966), the brilliant but often overlooked Catalan cellist and composer.
Through the project “Lost in Plain Sight: The Life and Legacy of Gaspar Cassadó”, Professor Song collaborates with cellist Katie Tertell and a network of musicians and institutions to rediscover Cassadó’s musical and cultural heritage. The initiative blends academic insight and live performance, offering audiences a richer understanding of Cassadó’s artistry and the Spanish cultural context in which he worked.
This autumn, the project features a series of events across the United States, including:
An Evening in Spain – Belvedere Series, 2 October 2025
In Search of Cassadó’s Legacy – Georgetown University, 3 October 2025
Lost in Plain Sight: The Life and Legacy of Gaspar Cassadó – Yale University, 6 October 2025
Gaspar Cassadó’s Iberian Legacy – Russell Library, 7 October 2025
Speaking about the project, Dr Song said:
“This has been an extraordinary opportunity to bring Cassadó’s music and story to new audiences and to explore how performance and scholarship can meet in creative dialogue.”
The events combine live performance, storytelling, and academic commentary, inviting audiences to rediscover a composer whose influence extends far beyond the cello repertoire.
