To mark Breast Cancer Awareness month this October, our colleague Abir Hamdar has shared a short video about one moment in a Lebanese woman’s cancer recovery. The video was produced as part of a larger series for a video installation called Hair Talk that Hamdar collaborated on with a group of Arab artists and medical professionals. The installation, which premiered at the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI) of the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2020, was based on Hamdar’s ethnographic research on Arab women who have experienced cancer as part of her Performing Arab Cancer project. This video (and the installation) was directed by film-maker Dima Alansari and features the award-winning artist and director Lina Abyad. Hamdar was the script writer and project consultant for the videos and the installation.
