Russian Language 4

The focus of this module is proficiency in oral and written Russian. It aims to develop in the student the ability to write and speak accurate Russian, expressing ideas on a broad but defined range of social, political and cultural issues. This is supported by work on translation from Russian into English and vice versa. The topics dealt with in the oral and essay classes are interlinked and are mutually complementary in terms of the range of concepts and vocabulary used.

Texts to be studied are likely to include:

  • Le Fleming, Svetlana and Stephen, A Guide to Essay Writing In Russian (Bristol Classical Press, 1996)
  • Simes, Natasha, Years of Change (Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company, 1996)
  • Argumenty i fakty (on internet at Gazeta.ru)
