Political reactions to the ongoing European refugee 'crisis', the vibrant discussions about a border wall across the US-Mexican border, and the rise of neo-nationalist political parties in the global north suggest that the world is facing a new reckoning with mobility. Are the new regimes of labor and militarized mobility control taking shape across the global north ushering in a new form of global apartheid? The talk will assess the global implications of a hierarchical labor market dependent upon differential access to mobility in relation to the massive investment in militarized border regimes by the global north.
