We are pleased to report on a specific project undertaken in collaboration with the National Society for Earthquake Technology in Nepal.
The project was designed to explore ways in which women can contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction; a new approach and way of working in Nepal since these women are not usually given a voice in decision-making.
The project focused on how to include women in decision-making processes, listening to their assessments of priority challenges. The work included education and training activities but also learning through delivering the projects themselves (including managing small budgets).
120 women based in two locations in the Kathmandu valley were involved; a village (Bhainse Rural Community, Bagmati GP) and an urban area (Tajhya Urban Core Area LMC 21).
Priority issue: fire protection measures
