DRMC are pleased to announce that Paula Rossi, Assistant Professor of Public Governance at the University of Vaasa, Finland will be visiting Durham this month and delivering a seminar on the topic of Participatory Systems Mapping as Relational Method for Evaluating Complex Social Phenomena.
Paula Rossi, Assistant Professor of Public Governance (Tenure Track) at the University of Vaasa and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Edinburgh Business School will be giving the following seminar:
Seminar Title: Participatory Systems Mapping as Relational (But Not Relational Enough) Method for Evaluating Complex Social Phenomena.
Abstract: There is a need for policy evaluation related to complex social phenomena such as mental health crisis, segregation, or childhood poverty to implement a complexity-informed, participatory approach, contributing to a shift from linear and reductionist ways of understanding evaluation to foreground the relational and systematic aspects. In this session, Participatory Systems Mapping (PSM) as a relational method for evaluating complex social phenomena is explored. Particular focus is the relationship between PSM methods and broader discussions on complexity and system thinking, using an illustrative Finnish case example deriving data from interviews and participatory workshops.
