Those participating in this event will:

Gain a broad understanding of the approach to health and health care during the Roman Principate (especially the first and second centuries A.D)

Hear about examples of Roman health care practices being re-examined today covering:

  • Preventive medicine and the preservation of health
  • The relationship between patients and their healers
  • Psychological wellbeing and holistic care
  • Pharmaceutical remedies

Engage in a group discussion linked to two specific questions:

  • Does Roman Stoicism offer us a philosophy of life that can help with mental wellbeing today; preventing stress, depression and anxiety?
  • Can today`s healers learn anything from their Roman forbears about `how to look; how to listen; how to speak; and how to care`?

Drinks and light catering will be provided and registration is free. The talk will begin at 5pm, followed by food and discussion.
