Spanish Art in County Durham is a new online exhibition hosted by the Zurbarán Centre for Spanish and Latin American Art. It has been curated by Andy Beresford (Professor in Hispanic Studies, Durham University) and Claudia Hopkins (Professor and Director of the Zurbarán Centre, Durham University). They collaborated with a team of doctoral students (Stephanie Bernard, Richard Jacques, Patricia Manzano Rodríguez, Irini Picolou) and research fellows (Piers Baker-Bates, Xanthe Brooke), who contributed to the commentaries on the artworks selected for the exhibition. James Wood and Gary Robson at Curious 12 designed the exhibition platform.
The exhibition contains detailed records and images of over 50 Spanish artworks from County Durham’s remarkable collections at The Bowes Museum, Durham University, The Spanish Gallery, Raby Castle, Durham Cathedral, and Ushaw College. This initiative is part of a public engagement project supported by Durham University and the Spanish Embassy.
The launch will include contributions from Claudia Hopkins, Andy Beresford (Durham University), José María Robles (Spanish Embassy), Jane Whittaker (The Bowes Museum). Claire Marsland (Ushaw College), and a representative from The Spanish Gallery.
The launch event will take place online, starting at 6.00 PM.
