Theatre is a fertile site of encounter between the visual and other cultural forms. It brings multiple sign systems into play with one another and with an audience: spoken language and vocal intonation; facial expression, bodily gesture and movement; music and other sounds; the design of spaces, sets, costume and lighting. Spain and Latin America have rich traditions of dramatic writing, performance cultures and theatrical innovation.
