Previous Disciplinary Notices

Friday 17 September 2021

We would like to update our community on four recent cases that were considered by Senate Discipline Committee.

Case One

One student was expelled from the University following a serious breach of our sexual misconduct and violence policy.

Cases Two and Three

Two students breached our sexual misconduct and violence policy, in unrelated incidents.

The first student received a one-year exclusion from the University and has been instructed to undertake an available consent-based training programme on their return to studies.

The second student has been prohibited from attending their graduation ceremony and any College events for the 2021/22 Academic Year.

Case Four

One student breached the University’s Misconduct Policy. They received a one-year exclusion from the University and community service.

Our Senate Discipline Committee, said: “Durham University is a safe place to live, work and study, but we are determined to make it even more so.  There is no place here for individuals who are found to have committed acts of sexual misconduct, or violence.

“We have committed to our community that we will promptly investigate, take action and provide support when our students disclose or report instances of sexual misconduct or violence to us.

“This approach has seen an increase in cases reported to us, but we see this as our community growing in confidence that we will act appropriately in response to such reports; and we are resolved that it will not deter us from our commitment.”
