The British Library Exhibition 'Unfinished Business: The Fight for Women’s Rights' looks at women who have had to fight to be recognized as intellectually equal to men. It explores some of the many women who have fought for change in education, work and in wider society.

Newcastle Libraries would normally be hosting a pop-up exhibition and arranging some in-person events to coincide with the exhibition. That has not been possible in 2020-21, but we did create an online short video highlighting items from our collection and sharing the life of a pioneer, Anne Fisher (1719-1778), who in her own profession and life bucked the trends of her times and made a significant contribution to her community and wider society. We’re delighted that Dr Barbara Crosbie from Durham University, who contributed to the video, has created a talk on this pioneering woman.
