Dragon! by Evgeniy Schwartz
We at Ooook! Productions are putting on 'Dragon' by Evgeniy Schwartz on Thursday, March 2nd, 7-9PM, and Saturday March 4th 1-3pm and 7-9pm to raise money for relief efforts in Ukraine. We are also taking donations outside of just the show, because every pound counts! So, if you'd like to donate more, or you can't come to see the show but still want to donate, here's where you can donate: https://goto.gg/f/45875
DRAGON! tells the story of a socially awkward knight, Lancelot, who arrives at a town where the government is led by a tyrannical, three-headed dragon. Each year, the town gives the dragon a girl to marry, and this year that girl is Elsa, who, like most people, would Literally Rather Die Than Marry That Thing.
DRAGON! was originally banned in the Soviet Union for being harshly critical of the government. It deals in essence with totalitarianism and how it manipulates the minds of the people under it. Although originally published in the 1940s, it remains hauntingly relevant today. All proceeds from this show will go to support Ukraine relief efforts.
We're also still looking for people to help out backstage for the production, like handing actors their props and helping out with costumes. It's a great way to get started in theatre here. If you know anyone, we'd love to hear from them - tell them to email elizabeth.g.davis@durham.ac.uk and they'll sort them out!
