Latin American Texts

This module, which is taught and assessed in English, is open to students who are taking Spanish Language 2A or Spanish Language 2B and provides an introduction to the development of Latin American cultural production, laying the foundations for advanced study in these areas in year 4.

The module will take as its starting point key texts and/or writers from Latin America, and explore their relationship with the history, reality and wider culture of Latin America. This may involve other artistic expressions – film, music, art, for example – that also express that reality. In the course of the lectures and seminars, you are encouraged to explore related themes, which might include gender, race, ecology, politics, where you feel they are appropriate.

Since the module is a direct element of the pathway to the Department’s Latin American options in the final year.

You will find detailed course information, including bibliography and seminar topics, online when classes begin.
