Introduction to Visual Culture Studies

In this module you will debate key issues in the study of visual culture as you explore a rich diversity of images, artworks, films, and ideas. You will be introduced to key theoretical and historical readings from Western and Eastern Europe, East Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Topics you will examine include: ideas of vision, images, media, art, and film in a global context; the nature of visual perception; vision, power, and modernity; gender; race; globalisation and diaspora; visual and image-making technologies; memory, space, time and the visual.
