Key Initiatives

  • The Provost Office oversees an International Recruitment Campaign. We aim to hire over 300 world-leading academics in the next three years, with positions across all Four Faculties (Arts and Humanities; Business School; Social Sciences and Health; and Science)
  • Effective staff development and progression is critical to job satisfaction. The Provost Office has established effective progression and promotion systems that recognise performance and reward it accordingly, and are transparent, effective and fair for all
  • Through strategic planning, the Provost Office coordinates and supports critical departmental and pan-university academic issues to sustain and develop world-leading staff and a cutting-edge environment. We work closely with departmental senior management teams, Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Durham University's Strategic Planning Office and the Human Resources division
  • Durham University is committed to supporting all staff and to creating an environment that facilitates individuals to reach their full potential. The Provost Office works with all staff, and specifically the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team, to create a culture of inclusion for all
  • We believe firmly that academic staff should focus on academic matters, including world-leading research and a world-class education for our students. While we expect academic staff to undertake a level of citizenship, we expect this service to be appropriate in terms of content and amount. Thus the Provost Office continually strives to streamline the administrative activities of academic staff.
