Professor Stefan Przyborski, Interim Executive Dean (Science)

The Executive Dean (Science) is responsible for the strategic development and financial performance of the Faculty of Science. A key academic leader, supporting and enhancing research and teaching performance within the Faculty and an important ambassadorial role for the Faculty and the University.

Professional background and expertise

Stefan joined Durham University in 2000 and has held previous posts as Deputy Executive Dean and Dean of Infrastructure.

Stefan is Professor of Cell Technology focused on developing bioengineered human tissues to improve health and disease, to enhance the predictive accuracy of drugs and cosmetics, and reduce the use of animals in research. His technology has been commercialised through a successful Durham University spinout venture and is used widely throughout the world by academics and industry.

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Royal Society of Chemistry and a former President and Fellow of the Anatomical Society.

Education and qualifications

Stefan holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Sheffield and a PGCE Higher Education from Durham University.
