Facilities

The College has a wide range of facilities that are available to our undergraduate and postgraduate students, to allow you to make the most of your time at Durham. Facilities open to undergraduates and postgraduates include the College’s Lowe Library, situated at the heart of the Castle itself; the Undercroft (universally known as ‘The Undie’), accessed through the main Courtyard; music rooms in Bailey Court accommodation; a small gym in Moatside Court; and the laundry, also in Bailey Court.

Members of the JCR and MCR will also have access to the JCR and MCR Common Rooms, both located within the Castle.

Please note: Due to Covid-19 restrictions, access to shared facilities may be subject to change throughout the 2020/2021 academic year, to ensure the safety of everyone in the Castle community.

We are proud of our bar in the atmospheric 11th Century Undercroft, with its distinctive arches and stonework. It is one of the focal points of the College – a place to meet, chat and relax.
Art and Music

There’s a huge range of theatre, music and arts going on at University College. From our Castle Concert Orchestra to the Chapel Choir, Castle Big Band to Castle Theatre Company, there are events and opportunities for everyone.
