Durham Blue Event

On 22 May 2025, Alzheimer’s Society – County Durham, in partnership with Durham University and the Balbir Singh Dance Company, presented A Trail of Blue – a city-wide awareness event aimed at highlighting the impact of Alzheimer’s through artistic and sensory experiences.
Held during twilight, known as the "blue hour", the event featured a series of pop-up performances incorporating light, dance, music and blue-themed props. These performances invited the public to pause, reflect, and connect with the theme of memory and the lived
experience of dementia.
Several key sites across Durham were involved, including Dilston Physic Garden, Durham Castle, Durham
Cathedral, Hatfield College, the Durham University Oriental Museum, and the Durham University Botanic Garden. Each location was lit and decorated in blue, creating a trail of immersive and contemplative spaces throughout the city.
The project brought together academic, cultural, and community partners in a shared effort to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s,
demonstrating the power of creative collaboration in public engagement and health education.
