We welcome alumni involvement in the continuing life of the department. This can range from providing profiles, speaking to our undergraduates about your career in geography and beyond, or even providing placement opportunities for some of our students. We are also always interested in discussing areas where our academic staff may be able to work with you on active research projects. Recent examples of such involvement include some very well-received employment talks where a variety of alumni were able to speak about their career pathways to some of our current undergraduates.

For those alumni who are interested in giving back to the department in other ways, we would welcome an opportunity to discuss this with you. In the past, alumni have generously provided financial support for a wide range of activities and at a variety of levels. For example, our alumni have supported specific research projects, building work, postgraduate studentships, and enabled undergraduates to undertake small field projects with academic staff. If this is of interest or you would just like to know more then please get in touch with our dedicated alumni address: gg-alumni@durham.ac.uk and we can explore what might be most appropriate and most closely aligned to your interests.

Or, if you prefer, the University provides a secure site where you can donate directly to the department.

Alumni Career Talks

Career talks are held for current Geography students and allow former graduates from the department to come back and speak to the undergraduate and postgraduate students currently studying for their qualifications. The talks allow students to discover how their Geography degree and studying at Durham University can help them in their future careers and to show how studying a degree in Geography has helped current alumni to shape and direct their careers.
