Student Life

Our student community is active across the university and in the community. The Durham University Geography Society - affectionately known as DUGS - is one of the largest and oldest in the university and it organises events to all different tastes. It starts with a warm welcome to all freshers joining the department and continues through every year, from special guest speakers and career talks to hikes, barbeques on the beach and film nights.

Your time at Durham will also be enriched by life in your college. There, and in the wider university, you’ll find opportunities for connecting with people who will be friends long after you graduate with stories about sport, music, theatre, or volunteering with local organisations. Just as important, we offer a variety of supports so that your studies at Durham are balanced, healthy, and rewarding.
