The conversation-style tutorials take place on Wednesdays, 11 – 13, and are designed for students, staff and translators alike. To attend, please sign up here to receive the zoom link.

16th March 2022, 11.00am-1.00pm

Translating Professor Kevin Lin, OBE

Professor Lin will offer an overview of his role as the Official Interpreter (English <> Chinese) of the Queen and six successive Prime Ministers in a career spanning more than twenty years. The masterclass is intended for anyone interested in translation, languages and cross cultural communication. The issues described will challenge some of the fundamental beliefs in translation/interpreting studies. As always, the talk will be followed by Q&A.

As well as being the Official Interpreter for six successive Prime Ministers (and counting!), Professor Lin has also interpreted for many chairmen/CEOs of leading businesses. His company KL Communications has the largest in-house team of Chinese interpreters in the private market in Europe. He leads on the collaborative MA in Interpreting programme at the University of Surrey. His textbooks have sold half a million copies in China. A Professor in Practice here with us at Durham University and Honorary Professor of UIBE in China, he is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. He was awarded OBE for service to UK-China relations in 2011.
