Acceptable Use of E-Resources

Access to online information resources, such as A&I and full-text databases, e-journals and electronic books is purchased under licence by the Library on behalf of the University.

Exact licence terms vary from one publisher to another, but in general they authorise use of the resource by current students and staff of the institution only for the purposes of academic research. Use of the resource for commercial research purposes and by unauthorised users are explicitly prohibited.

Your attention is therefore drawn to two key points:

  1. Personal usernames and passwords are not transferable and should never be disclosed to anyone else, either within the institution or outside it.
  2. Commercial research activity may not be permitted through the use of e-resources licensed to the University for academic purposes. University members who require use of such resources for commercial activity must enter into a commercial relationship with the supplier.
