Sedimentology Research Group

Our research incorporates all aspects of the sedimentary system, from source to sink and from micro- to macro-scales.

The group integrates state-of-the-art sedimentological, geochemical and geophysical techniques to understand fundamental and applied aspects of sedimentary rocks and ancient environments. Our research group is supported by UK research councils, by other UK governmental funds and by the oil industry worldwide.
Facilities
Sandstone Natural Arch USA

The group includes specialists in:

  • sedimentary basins
  • deformation, climate and sedimentation in tectonically active regions
  • biogeochemical processes in the Earth surface environment
  • interactions and feedbacks between tectonics, climate and the geomorphology
  • fluvial sedimentology under the influence of a variety of climatic regimes

Our research is strongly aligned with the following sustainable development goals (SDGs):

2 - Zero Hunger
