Universidad de los Andes

Universidad de los Andes was founded in 1948, and it was the first private university in Colombia that was independent from political or religious movements or parties. It is considered one of the top Latin American universities.

Number of places available: 4 Places (priority given to MLAC students)

Out of the total places available, Universidad de los Andes has places allocated for MLAC Hispanic Studies students so places for non MLAC students may be limited.

 

Dates

Uni Andes works on Southern Hemisphere term dates. They run from August-December then January - June. If students commence studies in August, this would be semester 2 for Uni Andes.

Application Deadlines:

  • Fall semester and full year (Jan - May): 30 October (previous year)
  • Spring semester (Aug - Dec): 30 April (current year)

 

Programme Information

Students should register a minimum of 9 credits and a maximum of 20 credits per semester. Students should follow the minimum requirements of their home university. 18 credits is equal to other partner requirements.

Academic Requirements/Restrictions

  • Exchange students cannot take classes in the School of Medicine.
  • All pre-requisites for modules should be met.

 

Language Requirements

Most classes are taught in Spanish and students are required to have Spanish Language to level B2. A language certificate will need to be provided at the point of application. If students are taking classes in English they will be required to have a B2 level in English as well as A2 level in Spanish.

Uni Andes offers an intensive Spanish class worth 3 credits for students throughout the academic year. Students are required to submit a placement test to ascertain which group they would be placed into.

 

Accommodation

Uni Andes does not offer accommodation on or off campus for exchange students. The Student Mobility Office will provide students with options, but students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

Other Information

Students must have international health insurance with dental and wide health coverage.

Living expenses are between approximately $3,420,000- 5,060,000 Colombian pesos per month (£690-£1020 per month).
