Equality, Diversity and Inclusion questions on the Annual Self-Evaluation form

Dr Selina Stone, while serving as the Postdoctoral Research Associate in Theological Education on the Common Awards team, produced a resource, ‘Belonging in Theological Education’, to aid TEIs in their ongoing reflection.

Dr Stone also created a video to explain the thinking behind the resource: https://youtu.be/Qh6M572zCxQ.

The Common Awards team explained when we circulated the document to TEIs that our intention was to revise the EDI section of the ASE form with the hope of simplifying it and cutting down on repetition, and to encourage TEIs to draw on the Toolkit to help them answer the questions.

We propose

  • to revise the EDI questions on the ASE form as set out below (Appendix 1 sets out the proposed questions);
  • to circulate these revised questions to TEIs for further comment, with the aim of finalising them by early summer; and
  • to ask TEIs to use the new questions when they complete the ASE for the 2025/6 academic year in autumn 2026; while allowing any TEI that wants to adopt the questions for the current ASE cycle to do so.

Note that Dr Stone’s resource encourages TEIs to give themselves an indicative score to mark their progress in various areas. Our purpose in referring TEIs to this resource is not to gather those scores, still less to set targets for them or create league tables. They are simply a tool for use within the TEI to facilitate ongoing reflection.

We would be grateful if you could provide any feedback you have using the consultation form by 3rd June 2025. A summary of responses will be considered by the Common Awards Management Board after this time.
