InterArctic Knowledges Conference

The InterArctic Knowledges Conference brings together participants from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds across the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts around the topic of Arctic knowledges and uncertainties. Through attending to the notion of ‘Arctic knowledges’ from a variety of perspectives and research positions, this event celebrates the importance of interdisciplinarity on the production, understanding, communication, and representation of Arctic knowledges and their afterlife.

The format of the conference is a combination of interactive roundtable discussions and active participation, with the aim of sharing and creating interdisciplinary knowledges from and about the Arctic region. We are aiming to keep this a cosy space for active sharing and participation, so our participant numbers will be limited. Lunch will be provided, as well as tea/coffee and snacks throughout the day.

The morning will consist of guest speakers and introductions from participants, followed by a hands-on and creative afternoon workshop to represent our collective InterArctic knowledges. If you are able to join us in person, we strongly encourage you to do so.

In favour of inspiring more creative discussions, we are not requesting submissions for posters and abstracts. Instead, we ask that participants submit an item or a component from your research that speaks to the Arctic uncertainties and knowledges that you encounter, navigate and produce through your work.

We are inviting responses in a range of media – poems, photographs, images, scientific equipment, graphs, data products, a word cloud, your favourite quote, you name it!

These can be physical items brought along to the workshop or submitted as a digital image in advance. You will not be asked to directly present on these (as you would for a poster or research talk, for example). Instead, these items and submissions will be used to guide the discussions during the morning session and will be printed to be used as part of the creative afternoon workshop session during the conference.

We look forward to meeting you all!
