As we head into a new academic year, we’d like to take the opportunity to outline what you can expect from University Library and Collections and the services we have available.

Reinstating reservations

As of Monday 4 October 2021, we will be reinstating reservations allowing you to reserve an item that is already out on loan.

Maintenance work at Bill Bryson Library

From Monday 16 August, you are likely to experience some disruption inside the Bill Bryson Library due to several essential building maintenance works taking place. Some areas of the Bill Bryson Library may be closed - this work is expected to last throughout August and much of September.

Protecting precious collections

Lots of us will have shelves full of things we love to keep, and it’s the same in museums, except our curators can’t just put the collections in a cardboard box in the garage like we might do with our old school books!

Negotiations for a new agreement between UK Universities and the publisher Elsevier commenced in March 2021, led by the sector and facilitated by Jisc.

Summer vacation opening times

As of Saturday 26 June, we enter the University vacation period and will be adjusting our opening times. For the duration of the summer period, we’ve removed limits on the number of individual study spaces you can book.
