Eligibility

If you are wishing to come to Durham on a European exchange you should:

  • be a registered student at one of our partners
  • be nominated by your home university by the 30th April
  • have completed at least 1 year of study at Undergraduate level
  • Postgraduate Taught students should be registered as a postgraduate student at your home university

For Postgraduate research students, you must have a good objective of the research period at Durham.

Study Periods

Due to the structure of our modules, which are designed to run over a full academic year, we recommend students come for a full academic year (October - June) and follow normal assessment structures as set for modules.

Part year European exchanges are possible if an agreement has been signed based on part year and we recommend part year exchanges start in October (Michaelmas term). Starting a European exchange in January (Epiphany term) is only possible with special permission and if the applicable institutional agreement allows for short term exchanges. It is not possible to start in the Easter term (April - June). All modules at Durham are structured to run for the full academic year. Students staying for part of the year only will need to arrange alternative assessment with the Exchange Coordinator up on arrival.

Postgraduate research students have flexibility with dates.  Please add the dates required to your application form and these will be passed to the department for their consideration.

Choosing modules

On the application form you will need to select modules for your proposed course of studies:

  • Students are allowed to take modules from a maximum of 3 departments.
  • A Module Handbook is published for each Department and contains information on modules and academic requirements. These are found on the Programme Information page.
