The 2022 Early Career Conference is a chance for postgraduate students and other early career researchers to meet in person and to present their research in a collegial environment.
Call for Papers
Postgraduate students and other early career researchers are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute papers on any area relevant to Catholic theology/Catholic studies, including:
- Constructive, historical, practical, pastoral, or political theology
- Catholic Social Thought and Practice
- The history of Catholicism
- Lived Catholicism
- Catholicism, literature, and the arts.
Please submit 80- to 150-word paper proposals using our online submission form by Wednesday 27 April.

Parallel paper sessions will be chaired by Chris Insole, Gerard Loughlin, Paul D. Murray, Marcus Pound, Anna Rowlands, and Rik Van Nieuwenhove, among others.
The keynote lecture is entitled Rewilding the Church: Perspectives on Pope Francis’ Disruptive Synodality - by Dr Gregory Ryan (Durham University).

Thanks to the generous support of the Congregation of Jesus, a limited number of hardship travel bursaries will be available for postgraduate students and unwaged early career scholars presenting papers who have already sought assistance from their home institution and all other relevant sources open to them. If you would like to apply for a bursary, please complete the Early Career Conference Travel Bursary Application Form 2022 and email it to ccs.admin@durham.ac.uk by Wednesday 27 April.
While registering you will be asked if you would like to join the optional dinner at a local restaurant (subsidised, £16 payable on the day).

Pricing
The registration fee of £15 paid through Eventbrite includes morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, and the 4pm drinks reception (subsidised). The optional dinner is an extra £16 (subsidised), to be paid in cash on the day.
