Happy Lunar New Year, Ustinovians!

Happy New Year (Part 2) from Ustinov College! This month, our GCR celebrated the year of the Tiger with a Lunar New Year party in our College Bar. February marks the start of the Lunar New Year, but it is also a month of love. Our GCR ran several Valentine’s Day activities – including a rose delivery service and a dance party. We hope that all Ustinovians, in Durham and around the world, have a prosperous year full of love.

The GCP has also had a busy month. Café Scientifique hosted a panel on the intersection of science and the law, and Café Politique hosted a panel on climate change and governance in the Global South. Café Des Arts and the Volunteering team chose a pop-culture route, organising a seminar on the burgeoning field of video game studies and a Harry Potter-themed litter pick, respectively.

The Seminar team has collaborated with SUCCESS to organise an upcoming 2-Minute Pitch programme. SUCCESS will host a 2-minute business pitch competition on February 24th, which will be followed by a 2-minute academic showcase on March 3rd hosted by the Seminar team. Ustinov’s Intercultural Forum will be celebrating International Mother Language Day on February 21st, which will be hosted in person and on Zoom.

Many of our GCP events are now hybrid and we encourage our alumni community to join us online. For more information, you can reach us at ustinov.alumni@durham.ac.uk

Finally, the spring edition of the Ustinovian will feature the theme ‘Hope’. We hope to hear from alumni who may want to contribute to this issue! You can reach us at ustinov.publication@durham.ac.uk
