Accommodation

A typical undergraduate room at Trevelyan CollegeA single standard undergraduate room at Trevelyan College.

Single Rooms

The majority of our first-year students live in single study bedrooms with shared facilities. Each room is fully furnished and comes with a single bed, wardrobe, desk, and washbasin. Our bedrooms are clustered into communal landings of six rather than long corridors. This makes it easy to get to know your neighbours and adds to our friendly atmosphere. Each landing has shared facilities – individual lockable toilets and showers and a shared pantry with basic cooking equipment. You can read more about university undergraduate accommodation fees on the central Undergraduate Residence Charges pages.

Twin Rooms

Trevelyan - like many Durham Colleges - has a number of shared rooms. Sharing a room is a great way to make friends, especially when you first arrive. We ask all our incoming students to fill in questionnaires about their personalities and sleep habits, so if you do share a room we will make sure that it is with someone you are compatible with.

If you are concerned about sharing a room for medical reasons, whether physical or mental health concerns, you can email us in confidence at trevelyan.studentsupport@durham.ac.uk.

You can read Rosie and Lizzie's blog about sharing a room in college here.

It also became clear that we had been well matched together, as we both had similar interests and wanted to join the same societies. We’ve become really good friends and are living with each other again for the next year. Overall I would say that I have loved sharing a room, and it has made my college experience so much better!

Despite initially being concerned at the idea of sharing a room, it ended up being the best term of my first year and is something I would actively encourage people to do at Trevs. My roommate quickly became a close friend for life and went on to be the best man at my wedding eight years later.

Postgraduate Accommodation

Postgraduate accommodation contracts run from September to September. Our postgraduate students can choose between standard and en-suite accommodation.

Standard Accommodation

Postgraduates choosing standard accommodation live in single study rooms with shared facilities. These distinctively shaped rooms are clustered into communal landings of six rather than long corridors. This makes it easy to get to know your neighbours and adds to our friendly atmosphere. Each landing has a shared pantry with basic cooking equipment, and rooms are equipped with standard furniture, including a single bed, wardrobe, desk, and washbasin. Our postgraduates and returning students live together in allocated blocks, so you will not be living alongside first years - although you are close enough to still feel like one community.

En-Suite Accommodation

Our en-suite bedrooms are in our designated postgraduate and returning student wing, 'K Block'. They contain the same furniture as standard bedrooms but have an attached private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and washbasin.

You can read more about university postgraduate accommodation fees on the central Postgraduate Residence Charges pages.

Accessible Rooms

We have three accessible en-suite rooms specially adapted for use by undergraduate and postgraduate students with restricted mobility.
