Congratulations and Welcome to New Postgraduate Students

Welcome from the Principal

Congratulations on obtaining a place at Durham University and Trevelyan College. This is an achievement of which you should be extremely proud.

Let me say a few words about the wonderful community that you are joining. Trevelyan (Trevs) is a vibrant, supportive, and enabling environment where you will be valued and empowered to venture out of your comfort zone, gain new experiences to become future-ready graduates and develop new skills for lifelong learning.  We encourage our students to explore their interests, discover new passions, and challenge themselves to reach new heights. There's something for everyone, from various extracurricular activities to sports, arts, and community outreach initiatives.

I encourage you to get involved, make new friends, and create lasting memories during your time here. I am genuinely excited to witness your growth and achievements throughout your time at Trevs. Remember, you are not just students but essential members of the Trevs family. Your unique perspectives, talents, and contributions will enrich and improve our community.

I am looking forward to welcoming you to Trevelyan in September. You will have plenty of opportunities to get to know the team when you arrive – in the meantime, please look at our college staff pages to learn more about us. Your first days at university will be very exciting, but they will also have their challenges, so please come and speak to one of us if you have any questions or worries or would like to chat.

Please read our induction web pages carefully to ensure that your arrival is as smooth and problem-free as possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at pgadmiss.trevelyan@durham.ac.uk or 0191 334 7001.

Once again, welcome to Trevs! Let’s embark on this incredible journey together.

Hello, I’m Dan, this year’s MCR president at Trevelyan College. Congratulations on your offer, I’m looking forward to welcoming you all to the college soon! When you arrive in Durham you will become a member of the college middle common room (MCR), which is the postgraduate community within the college. We are a small but close-knit and active group of postgraduate students with a vast range of subject knowledge, backgrounds, and interests. The MCR runs events throughout the year and participation at any level is a great way to meet new people and have fun! Your first week in Durham – University Induction Week Events Timetable

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.

To help you keep track of where you need to be, and what you need to do during your first busy days at university, in your College and your Department, we have created a day-by-day University Induction Planner. This should help you to plan your schedule, so you don't miss anything - from being issued with your Campus Card or meeting the staff in your Department, to trying out for a sports team or joining a student society.
